Writing is how I process the world and share the lessons I’ve learned along the way. In July 2024, I launched my blog, blackpeoplesbusiness, on Substack - a space born from my thoughts and frustrations, rooted in the Black experience and the intricacies of life. I describe it as “think pieces with academic thought, but mostly me complaining.” Through personal stories and social commentary, I explore themes of identity, culture, love and relationships. My blog is an invitation to explore and engage with Black people’s business in all its depth and complexity, unpacking the layers of what it means to navigate the world as a Black person.

The blog explores the harmful impact of stereotypical portrayals of Black men in media, focusing on how narratives of crime and struggle dominate representations. While these stories reflect some realities, they reinforce negative stereotypes, limiting societal perceptions and the self-identity of young Black men.
The piece advocates for diverse and aspirational portrayals that highlight the full spectrum of Black life—showcasing leaders, scholars, and creators—to challenge societal norms and inspire positive change. It calls for moving beyond trauma-centered stories to narratives that uplift and empower the Black community.
The Black Boy from The Block Storyline

The blog challenges the rigid beauty standards imposed on Black women by the popularisation of the “UK Black Girl” aesthetic. It critiques how these trends, amplified by social media, create pressures to conform, alienating those who don’t fit or can’t afford to maintain the look.
Highlighting the harm of boxing Black women into narrow categories, the piece celebrates individuality and diversity, affirming that Black women are not a monolith and should be free to exist authentically without judgment or societal constraints.
